Faces of Shift with Mile High Sports
At Shift Workspaces, we’re proud to celebrate the remarkable individuals who make up our community.
In this edition of Faces of Shift, we’re thrilled to spotlight Nate Lundy, the visionary behind Mile High Sports. With a passion for storytelling and a deep-rooted connection to the Denver sports scene, Nate has built a platform that brings fans closer to the action. Join us as we explore his journey, insights, and the stories that fuel his commitment to local sports coverage.
1. Hi Mile High Sports! Introduce us to you and the team.
Nate Lundy is the President and CEO of Mile High Sports since 2017 when he and a group of investors bought the company
from its original founders. One of those founders, Doug Ottewill, remains on staff as Editor-in-Chief. Longtime Denver
sports marketing veteran Jeff Owen serves as Vice President of Sales, and Danny Bailey is Executive Producer of MHS’
online shows and podcasts. MHS also employs several hosts and writers to cover the teams across Denver and Colorado.
2. Tell us about Mile High Sports’ history and its mission within the Colorado sports media landscape. What are your Core Values?
Mile High Sports has been part of the Denver sports scene since August 2002, when the first issue of Mile High Sports Magazine
was published. Since then, it has continued to publish its flagship magazine while expanding with a strong digital presence
across web, social media, and YouTube. The company also owns the number one high school sports site in Colorado, ColoradoPreps.com, the top Nuggets fan site DenverStiffs.com, and the Avalanche site HockeyMountainHigh.com.
3. How does Mile High Sports differentiate itself from other sports media outlets in Colorado?
Our long-term history in the market sets us apart. We’re also proud to be locally owned and independent.
4. What are the primary platforms through which Mile High Sports delivers content to its audience?
It’s difficult to narrow it down to just a few. In sports media, you need to be everywhere. Denver is a fantastic sports town,
and our team works hard to provide fans with the latest news and analysis across all major platforms.
5. Can you describe the typical workflow for producing a feature story or podcast at Mile High Sports?
Our team stays closely connected to the teams and the fans’ energy. They have the autonomy to cover stories as they see fit.
For the magazine, we focus on in-depth features that are unique to the community and our publication—setting us apart from
media outlets driven by short sound bites and clickbait.
6. How does Mile High Sports engage with the local community and support local sports initiatives?
Since acquiring the company, I promised to donate at least 10% of our ad inventory to local charities and events.
Whether cheering for a professional team or a high school game, we support local initiatives at all levels throughout the state.
7. Can you share some recent challenges the company has faced and how they were addressed?
COVID was a significant challenge — no games, no teams, no content. We stayed relevant by focusing on features and revisiting
iconic sports moments. It kept us afloat and made us stronger.
8. What does the team like to do for fun outside of work?
Watching games is both our job and our fun. We’re lucky that our passion aligns with our work.
9. How have your first few weeks been going at Shift Workspaces Bannock?
Shift has been exactly what we needed. At the end of 2024, we made the difficult decision to shut down our radio station after
17 years. With our audience moving online, we no longer needed a large studio setup. Shift Bannock gave us the perfect environment to focus on the future.
10. What was the deciding factor to join a shared workspace, and why Shift?!
Location, amenities, friendly staff, and the opportunity to kick off 2025 with fresh energy and focus for Mile High Sports.
Conclusion
Nate Lundy’s journey with Mile High Sports is a testament to the power of local storytelling, community connection, and the ability to evolve with the media landscape. His passion for Colorado sports and commitment to elevating local voices aligns perfectly with the spirit of Shift Workspaces—a place where visionaries like Nate find the flexibility and inspiration to grow.
