How to Be Social While Social Distancing

As you, along with the whole world, survive one more week of going out of your home only for groceries or other essentials a.k.a. social distancing, you may start feeling a little lonely. While you understand the importance of staying home, you have also started to miss your family, friends, and even your coworkers

The good news is that with today’s technology and the power of the internet there are many ways to be social while practicing social distancing

For starters, there are quite a few ways of connecting with your friends and family through video conferencing apps such as Skype, Zoom, or Hangouts, but while this is definitely better than not being able to contact them at all, seeing and talking to them fills just a portion of your socializing needs.

After all, human bonding happens through much more than just talking. We play games, we share food and drink, we sweat together, and we also learn together. And although doing these activities while physically close generates a stronger bonding, there are many virtual replacements that do the trick almost as well, here are a few examples.

Movies and TV

Instead of binge-watching another show on your own you can now watch with a friend. With apps such as Netflix Party, you can all watch the same thing at the same time.

Games

Internet gaming has come a long way from being an activity that isolates people to one that creates a strong connection between players. There are many games for you to play with your friends such as Fortnite, Animal Crossing, and many more.

If you are not a fan of video games, then there are also many other options for you to play with your friends. There are virtual versions of classic games such as pool, poker, mini-golf, and many more, and the best part is you can maintain the tradition of accompanying these games with a beer.

Classic board games such as UNO, chess, and Rummikub also have digital versions you can play with your friends and family.

Workout

With all the gyms closed and classes canceled you might have found yourself with too much extra energy and working out at home isn’t the same without your gym partners. Well, now you can work out together virtually. These days many people are offering their fitness classes online that go from every type of yoga imaginable, intense cardio workouts and even muscle building classes. So there really is no excuse to sit around missing your gym buddies.
